Ethiopian Muslims continue to peacefully protest

Though the government thought that Ethiopian Muslims would decrease their peaceful protests in the Ramadan season, the peaceful Friday protests have increased in different parts of the Country.

Police have also begun taking measures in some parts of the Country.

Ethiopian Muslims in Woldia town, North Central Ethiopia have been detained and harassed since Thursday in Selam mosque.

Hundreds of worshipers have been taken hostage in the mosque for hours. Over 38 people have been detained out of which 30 were women.

Similarly, a large number of protesters in Addis Abeba have echoed the following slogans “ free our leaders, the government itself kills and charges, the terrorist is the government, criminals of the government should appear before court, we are not terrorists, and we are one”. Ten people have been arrested in Anwar Mosque in Addis Abeba. ESAT has not confirmed this from other sources yet.

Concerned about the repression in Ethiopia and the growing dissent, the European Union had sent its representatives to Ethiopia calling for the release of politicians and journalists.

ESAT will be presenting news reports about the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

ESAT has also leant that the ruling EPRDF is attempting to bring in its former members and start a political unity.
