People think Ayalew resigned due to reasons related to Border issue, Gov’t study finds

A new study conducted by the Public Opinion Information Section of the Government Communication Affairs Office has found that the resignation of Ayalew Gobeze, the ex-president of the Amhara Regional State, is a strategy by the government to better carry out the border demarcation between Tigray and Amhara regions.  Ayalew Gobeze resigned from his post last month and was succeeded by his Deputy Degu Andargachew in what the government called a ‘power succession’.
According to the information collected Degu Andargachew is not well received by the populace. Many believe that he is only there to execute the plans and demands of the Tigrean People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
Similarly, Ahmed Abetew, former Deputy Administrator and currently Ethiopia’s Trade Minister, and Alemnew Mekonen, Head of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) Secretariat are both labelled as loyal to the TPLF. Insiders told ESAT that the two officials have been discovered possessing two Eurotracker vehicles; they have not been removed from their positions due to their loyalty to the TPLF.
During a cabinet evaluation, the two officials had said that the two vehicles were given to them by Chinese Companies in consideration of their ‘leadership qualities’. According to the Office there was no opinion given ‘benignly’. The opinions will presented to the Government’s Information Section and the Cabinet will discuss on it.
