Chinese companies to take part in Condominium constructions

After being criticised for its ambitious plan of building 50,000 condominium houses per year, the Addis Abeba City Administration has now turned its attention to Chinese companies aiming to construct 100,000 houses per year.

The City has registered over 800 thousand people looking for condominiums and 136 thousand people for the 40/60 housing scheme.

Mayor of the City, Diriba Kuma, had said last week that the government wanted to involve foreign companies to improve the implementation capacity in housing projects.

Sources close to the Administration said that the government wants Chinese companies to be involved in the housing construction projects and has already started talks with some of them.  To achieve the plans of constructing over 100thousand houses per year, companies that can come with loans are needed which the Chinese companies willing to do so.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalgn has recently been asked by the sole opposition MP Girma Seifu regarding the imbalance of the availability of condominium houses and the demand for it.
