New round of searches in Addis Abeba


After Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service and Federal Police Joint Counter-
terrorism Task Force last week said it has reliable evidence indicating that the terrorist group
Al-shabaab and terror groups assisted by Eritrea are preparing to carry out terror attack in
various parts of Ethiopia, new rounds of searches and check have began in Addis Abeba.
Radisson Blue and Jupiter International Hotels in Kazainches area in Addis Abeba have been
compelled to install modern security check machines. Similarly, other service providing
organisations are also now busy installing the electronic security machines.
Following this, police has been conducting unexpected house to house searches in Saris area
of Addis Abeba. Police has also been stopping and searching vehicles.
Ethiopia had said two Somali nationals were killed in a bomb blast at their home in the
Bole area of Addis Abeba while in the process of manufacturing the bomb last month. The
blast occurred a few miles from a stadium packed with fans purchasing tickets for the game
between the Wayla Antelopes of Ethiopia and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
