Religious leaders comment on the recent stern statements of EOTC

Asked what the reasons for the unprecedented opposition and brave statements of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) priests were last week, a religious leader said it could have to do with the change of the Patriarch.

The difference so far had to do with the leader. The Patriarch himself was a supporter of the popes himself, the religious scholar said.

Similarly, asked to what extent the Church and religious leaders will go to solve the problems, he said that he fears that the government could interfere and divert it.

On the other hand, Aba Ameha Eyesus, one of the few priests who had been severly persecuted under the hands of the government, said the statements of the priests have come very late and are spoken out of anxiety.

“After the Country has been destroyed, the national Flag has been disgraced and the physical and spiritual life of Ethiopians has been disturbed, they now have got the gut to speak just for the sake of feeling free from their fears” said Aba Ameha Eyesus.
