Students of Debre Markos University stage protest

Windows and office blocks of the Debre Markos University, Northern Ethiopia, have been smashed after students protested new directives that relate to dressing codes. The campus was surrounded by police.

The protest began after officials of the University denied students that were coming back from Church an entry into the Campus wearing their shawls.

Students were shouting “you cannot strip our rights”.

Students said, the incident gave them a chance to speak out their frustrations. The violence is now calming down, they added.
