Despite the increasingly rampant bad governance and eviction of people in the past three years in Afar, a meeting is being held in Awash Araba to elect the region’s officials inside the tank operators training centre.
There are reportedly two camps of those who support the election of the current regional president Ismael Alisero, who is supported by the TPLF, and those that oppose him. However, president Ismael and his supporters are conducting the election by acting both as candidates and voters themselves.
Ismael, who has not completed his elementary studies, has been leading the region for a long time now. He is attempting to control the election results by queuing people like Seyoum Awol, Muhammed Ambeta, and Awol Wotika along with him.
ESAT had reported the power struggle in Afar region. If President Ismael wins again, he will be the first regional president to stay in power for a long time.
